A Senator Tried To Outsmart A Highly Respected Doctor. It Didn't Work Out Too Well For Him.

By Adam Mordecai

I know this will not come as a shock to you, but sometimes senators care less about facts than their own opinion. Such was the case with Sen, Richard Burr (R-N.C.) at a hearing where experts from Taiwan, Canada, Denmark, and France came to testify about universal healthcare in their own countries. After Sen, Burr tried to stump Dr. Danielle Martin for the third time, she finally gave him back a little guff, with a big old dose of facts.

At 3:56, Dr. Martin says it better than anyone could.

FACT CHECK TIME! Here's what our fact checker found:

Dr. Martin is correct that 45,000 people die each year from lack of insurance. And the myths around Canadian healthcare are debunked here. Additionally, Canada is ranked 30th in the World Health Organization rankings of health systems, while the United States ranks 37th. And we spend more than anyone else in the world to get that rank.

Good times. Good times.
